Your driver will meet you directly at the Catania Cruise Terminal before setting off towards the slopes of Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. Travel up to Rifugio Sapienza, at around 2,000 metres (6,500 feet), where you’ll find an extraordinary volcanic landscape shaped by ancient lava flows and dramatic lunar-like scenery.
Once there, you can choose how to experience Mount Etna:
- Self-guided exploration: Walk around the famous Silvestri Craters and enjoy spectacular views over the Ionian coast.
- Cable car & 4×4 – optional: Take the Funivia dell’Etna cable car to around 2,500 metres and, where available, continue towards the higher areas by specialized 4×4 vehicles accompanied by authorized alpine guides.
- Local flavours: Take a break at one of the mountain cafés, taste local honey and regional specialties, or browse for a unique volcanic souvenir.
After your Etna experience, return to Catania for a 1-hour walking tour through the heart of its historic centre.
Walk through streets lined with distinctive lava-stone Baroque architecture and reach Piazza del Duomo, home to the iconic Elephant Fountain and the impressive Cathedral of Saint Agatha. You’ll also have time to experience the lively atmosphere of Catania’s traditional streets and discover some of the city’s most characteristic corners.
At the end of the visit, relax during the short transfer back to Catania Port.
